Athletic fields require being prepared for events to meet standards for play, and the knowledge of how to prepare the surface as well as the marking of lines is required. I've learned this skill for football, baseball, soccer, discus, and shotput at the high school level and down. On softball and baseball fields, skinned areas require grooming, and lines are made in chalk on the skinned areas. Football fields require a large amount of painting after mowing, and often rolling due to usage. Stencils are key, and pulling masonry line is required for straight lines. Field prep is a lot of work, but well done receives an enjoyable response from players and spectators.
